Magnesium isotopic compositions of olivine, spinel, and hibonite from the Murchison carbonaceous chondrite

چکیده
The Mg isotopic compositions of olivine, spinel, and hihonite from the Murchison carbonaceous chondrite have been determined by secondary ion mass spectrometry. The olivines exhibit only marginal effects. They have no detectable intrinsic mass fractionation; however, after correcting for mass fractionation, the mean residual 26Mg/24Mg for the five grams is slightly in excess of the terrestrial value. Blue spine], which often contains inclusions of hihonite and perovskite, is character&d by positive fractionation (enriched in heavier isotopes) ranging from + 1 to +46 permil/amu, and with a roughly constant residual of + 1.04 f 0.25 (2~~) perrnil. These characteristics can he derived from an initial terrestrial Mg isotopic composition through varying degrees of mass fractionation, and the addition of 26Mg from 26Al decay. The hibonites show both positive and negative fractionation and residuals. Three deep-blue granular hibonites show large fractionation from + 10 to + 17 permil/amu with residuals tanging from 1.8 to +9.7 permii. The remaining five colourless hibonites are closer to the terrestrial composition. The fractionation for these grains varies from -5 to +3 nermil/amu and the residual from -7.0 to +2.5 nermil. There is a hint of a correlation between fractionation and residual effects.

Presolar isotopic and chemical signatures in hibonite-bearing refractory inclusions from the Murchison carbonaceous chondrite
Magnesium-, calcium-, and titanium-isotopic compositions, as well as trace-element abundances, have been determined by ion microprobe mass spectrometry for 37 hibonite-bearing inclusions from the Murchison carbonaceous chondrite. These and previously analyzed hibonite-bearing inclusions can be divided into three main groups based on morphological and mineralogical criteria. PLAty Crystal fragme...
متن کاملFIRST Ti-XANES ANALYSES OF REFRACTORY INCLUSIONS FROM MURCHISON
Introduction: A system of solar composition is so reducing that Ti and Ti can coexist, making the valence of Ti a valuable indicator of fO2 conditions during formation of nebular materials. The Ti/Ti ratios observed in the Ti-rich phases fassaite and rhönite in coarse-grained refractory inclusions from CV3 chondrites have been shown [1,2] to be quantitatively consistent with formation in a gas ...
متن کاملBulk Chemical and Isotopic Compositions of Spinel-, Hibonite-rich Spherules: Clues to Their Origin
Introduction: Melilite-free, spinel-, hibonitebearing spherules, a major type of refractory inclusion in CM2 chondrites, consist of phases that are predicted by thermodynamic calculations to condense from a cooling gas of solar composition but are not predicted to coexist with each other. Throughout updates and additions to the data base over the years, calculations [e.g. 1-3] consistently show...

Four hibonite-bearing refractory inclusions, HAL from Allende, DH-Hl from the Dhajala H3 chondrite, 7-404 and 7-97 1 from the Murchison CM2 chondrite, have related chemical and isotopic systematics: they exhibit large Ce and V depletions and very low Mg and Ti concentrations compared to other meteoritic hibonites and have mass-fractionated Caand Ti-isotopic compositions with emichments in the h...
متن کاملMagnesium Isotopic Compositions of Cm Hibonite Grains
Introduction: Hibonite is thought to be one of the earliest solids in the solar system, occurring as either a condensate or refractory residue, therefore the Mg isotope compositions of hibonite grains can help elucidate the initial abundance and distribution of Al in the early solar system. Previous investigations [1-6] of CM hibonite grains have demonstrated that hibonite shows a bimodal patte...
